Rhymes With Orange Newsletter #5

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Orange Central, where every day is long underwear day.  While it is fun to say, "I work at an old Toothbrush Factory now converted  to studios for artists and artisans," I could just as easily say "I work in  an old, poorly insulated building with drafty windows and banging radiator  pipes."

Here's what's new:

This November, I participated in an "open house" in my building, where artists open up their studios for the weekend so the public can wander from studio to studio and see what creative pursuits folks are up to. About 500 people marched through my door, and it was a great way to talk to people about cartooning and show them my digs. Getting to actually talk face to face, as opposed to e-mail, is a rare and valued treat.

For those of you who reside in Massachusetts, Open Studios at the Arts and Industries Building in Florence is held every November, and you are warmly invited.

With Open Studios as a deadline, I got my act together and printed up some Rhymes With Orange color postcards. I did five different cat and dog favorites and fashioned them into a smart little postcard book. There are 15 postcards to a book (3 each of the 5 designs) and they are now available for sale on the Rhymes With Orange website. ($12 plus shipping.)

The site can now accept credit card payments using a service called Paypal, which is what people use on Ebay. It's a little klunky to sign up, but it's a secure site with a good reputation. For those of you looking for stocking stuffers, I can send an order out within two days of getting it.

Coming very soon, I will also be selling signed copies of the Rhymes With Orange cartoon collection ($9.95 plus shipping.)

Shameless plugs aside, I did a few interesting interviews since the last newsletter. One was for Jewish Woman Monthly, where I was honored in their Fall issue as one of the "10 Jewish women to watch in 5761" (that's the year 2000 for the gentiles in the crowd.) In addition, I had a really fun interview with a woman from The Jewish Advocate in Massachusetts. (Vol. 190, No. 47)

So as far as Rhymes With Orange world domination is concerned, I say, "Today Florence, tomorrow the Catskills!"

That's the pressing news for now. Stay warm, and enjoy your holidays.

Best,
Hilary

P.S. A web recommendation: For those of you who would like to hear some good news coming from the media, as opposed to standard fare of death and destruction, I recommend the site http://www.goodthings.com/. It tries hard to offer up alternative and inspiring events that go on everyday all over the place. They do have a link to the Rhymes With Orange site, but that's not why I'm recommending them.
