Two summer events for Rhymes With Orange!

Date: July 2006

Hi friends,

BIG things are cooking up on the Rhymes With Orange BBQ:

MONDAY, JULY 31--I wrote a funny play with my talented actor friend Kelsey Flynn,
and we are having it read by real time actors! The play is called Santacide. (http://www.santacide.com)

Santacide is a drawing room comedy about a mother/son detective team at the North
Pole investigating Santa's murder. They encounter a dysfunctional family of sorts--
a vampy Mrs. Claus, an incompetent elf, a frustrated mailman, a mute stable girl--
all with good reasons to take Santa out.

This is a staged reading, meaning seven actors are up there reading the play from the
script. Our goal is to get the audience laughing and then get your feedback for full
production at a later date.

When : Monday, July 31st, 7 PM.

Where : Theater 14, Green Street, Smith College Campus.

How much : All tickets are $7 at the door.

PLEASE COME! All the information you need is at your fingertips at http://www.santacide.com

This project was funded in part by a grant from the Northampton Arts Council.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 3 I will be speaking at Northampton Pride and Joy with my
talented cartoonist buddy Paige Braddock, creator
of the wacky and sometimes racy
comic book "Jane's World." She is coming all the way from San Francisco.

Here's a description:
"Jane's World is a graphic novel, best described as a smart ensemble comedy,
blending the classic comic strip style of Lynn Johnston with the racier writing style of
shows like 'Sex and the City' and 'Friends.' Jane is the lesbian heir to the hard-luck
Charlie Brown, somehow always winding up as the punch line in her own comic
book."

When : Thursday, August 3rd, 8 PM.

Where : Northampton Pride and Joy, 20 Crafts Ave. Northampton

How much : Free.

In other cartoon news, I attended the National Cartoonist's Society Reuben awards
weekend in Chicago in May, where I was one of the nominees in the cartoon panel
division. While I did not take home the big plaque, it was very exciting to talk geeky
cartoon talk with other cartoonists. We compared whiteout, paper, pens--
fascinating stuff! You can see all nominees and winners at http://www.reuben.org

Hope everyone is taking a break to enjoy their summer.

Cheers,
Hilary
