Rhymes With Orange Newsletter #13, Ground Hog Day 2004

Howdy Friends,

It's Groundhog Day, which is as good reason as any to whip off
another charming-yet-infrequent newsletter.

Today's newsletter topics:
-- the tell-all gallery show is back!
-- the opening for that show: THIS Wednesday, February 4th
-- the kickin' variety show on February 29th
-- the bassett hound that is ruining my life
-- the deal with the website
-- e-mailing strips to friends
-- new stuff for sale
-- what Bob, the webmaster, has to say about firewalls

1. Now back by popular demand-- the Rhymes With Orange Tell-All
Gallery Show is now up now through the end of February at the
Cummington Community House in Cummington, Massachusetts!

A lot of you folks wrote back after the last newsletter to say, "Hey,
I live way out west--too far away to see the show-- why don't you put
it on-line?"

Well, I haven't put it on line yet (no time), but the show is now 26
miles CLOSER to California than it was in October. Progress, no?

Here's a summary of the show: 28 original strips, each with an
accompanying paragraph explaining the hoopla that preceded the
strip or followed it. Some were censored, others caused the strip to
be cancelled, some garnered a hundred angry e-mails, etc. (Plus a few
dog and cat strips to take the edge off.)

2. Come to Cummington for the opening this Wednesday! It will be at
the Cummington Community House, on 33 Main St. in Cummington. Take
the turn off of Route 9 where the green sign says "Cummington
Center." The community house will be on your left hand side, opposite
the church. Park in the church lot. The opening will be from 6-7:30,
timed perfectly so that the fair residents of Cummington can stop by
after taking their trash to the Cummington dump. (It is SO
funnington to say Cummington!)

Cummington, for those not in the know, is in western
Massachusetts, midway between Northampton and Pittsfield, MA.

3. Want to know what the Compressed Gas Association in Washington
D.C. has to say about one of my strips? (They were NOT pleased.)
Northampton Arts Council is wrapping up it's "Five Sundays in
February"series with The Really Big Show, an Ed Sullivan-type variety
show guaranteed to delight. My bit will be to show a few choice
strips and read the more outrageous mail that was sent in response.

4. For the next two weeks, I am the legal guardian
to my parent's giant seventy pound bassett hound. A
dog breeder once told me, "These dogs were bred to
lead people to places," meaning they are not
inclined to be told where to go. He is also smelly, but friendly and
very good at wandering off into other people's studios
and taking a nap. I have already spent an afternoon wandering the
hallways of my building calling out "Wiley! Wiley? WILEY!!" If a
bassett shows up at your door anywhere in the contiguous United
States, bets are I have left the front door ajar.

5. Many of you have written in a sweaty panic to
ask, "Where is the site? What happened?" Well, it moved servers, and
there were glitches...but now if you actually type in
http://www.rhymeswithorange.com/
it will be there to amuse you.

6.And now, a comic strip sharing tip! Let's say you enjoy a strip
and want to e-mail it to a friend. There are brand new instructions
for that if you click on "Find a Specific Strip" on the home page.

7. Okay, this won't be in time for Valentine's Day, but isn't now
the right time to think about gifts for the Easter basket? I just
added nine more color designs to the Rhymes With Orange online
store. They will posted next week!

AND, I am happy to report, the Reigning Cats and Dogs book has sold
over 9,000 copies! If you want a REAL page-turner, put down The Da
Vinci Code and go get a copy.

8. Firewall business: If you have a firewall and have trouble
accessing the site, here's what Bob, the webmaster says:

"Chances are, you have internet security software installed on your
computer that conceals referrer statistics. Consult your software
documentation to find how to disable this feature. The comics are
available.

Instructions are available at:

So there's everything! Thanks for reading all the way down to the
end.

Hilary

P.S. Did you get two copies of this newsletter? All it means is
that you're extra special. I can't easily do anything about it.
