Rhymes With Orange Newsletter
#12, October 2003
Hey there, friends!
Today's newsletter topics:
--the tell-all gallery show running through the end of October
-- the opening for that show, which is TONIGHT, Wednesday, Oct. 8th
--the annual Open House at my studio in November
--my future mud-wrestling career
See CENSORED strips... Learn BEHIND-THE-SCENES
stories...Rhymes With Orange REVEALS ALL!!!! For the month
of October, I have a show of 28 strips up at Forbes Library in
Northampton, MA. Each strip has a story behind it-- either it was
censored, caused the strip to be cancelled, garnered a hundred
angry e-mails, or is a window into the deep, dark secrets of my
little, raisin-like soul. (Plus a few dog and cat strips to take the
edge off.)
For info, hours and directions to Forbes Library, go to
http://www.forbeslibrary.org/
And the OPENING RECEPTION for that show is...TONIGHT, from
5-7 p.m. Sorry about the short notice. It's been a busy couple of
weeks.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Mark your calendars for November 8th and 9th, (the second
weekend in November) because that's when I will be having an
OPEN HOUSE at my studio, and you are all invited! It is part of
my building's Open Studio event, where artists and artisans in
the building open their doors and let everyone come snoop
around. I will be selling the new dog and cat book there, along
with other goodies, so come get a signed copy. It's from 10 am
to 5 pm, both days. (For people who have a tough time with
stairs, there is an elevator.)
Directions to my studio are at the end of this e-mail.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, the mud-wrestling. This September, a friend and I ran
the Muddy Buddy race in Chicago, Illinois. (See
muddybuddy.com) Part of the challenge is to slog on your hands
and knees through a giant mud pit before crossing the finish
line. While no wrestling was involved, I did get a taste of what it
could be like to have every orifice covered in mud, and if this
cartooning thing doesn't pan out, well, at least I know I have other
viable career opportunities to explore.
Once I get the pictures, I will post them.
Be well,
Hilary

DIRECTIONS TO THE STUDIO:
>From the East or West: Take the Mass Pike (Rt. 90) to Exit 4 and
get on Rt. 91 North. Follow Rt. 91 N to exit 19, the
Northampton/Amherst exit. From the off ramp, go straight
through the set of lights. Go straight through 3 more sets of
lights. You are on Bridge Rd. Go a couple more miles and you
will see a blinking yellow light with a soccer field to your right.
Take a LEFT at this blinking light onto North Maple St. Go
straight through your next set of lights. Your second right after
the lights is Pine St. Take a right on Pine. In less than 1/4 mile,
there will be a big white building on your right with a parking lot in
front that says "The Arts & Industries Bldg." Park in the lot past
the building on the right hand side. I am on the top floor, Suite
408. It is on the left side of the building if you you are facing it.
>From the South:
Take Rt. 91 N and follow instructions from above.
>From the North:
Take Rt. 91 South to Exit 20. Off the exit, take a right at the
intersection onto Bridge Road. Go straight through another set
of lights and in a couple of miles you'll see a blinking yellow light
with a soccer field on your right. Follow instruction from above.
